Kano State Scholarships Board was created in 1968 as a division under the state Ministry of Education, It became an autonomous body in 1987 and is now one of the Parastatal under the Ministry Education.
The board is charged with responsibilities of awarding scholarships and improving the welfare of the State Sponsored Students studying at various higher institutions within Nigeria and overseas.
The board is presently headed by Prof. Fatima Muhammad Umar who is a renowned and respected Educationist. She assumed office since September, 2015. With support and directive of the present State Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the board’s leadership is making huge success.
• Our mission is to Guide, Assist and Sponsor Kano State Indigenes who wishes to further their education in Higher Institutions of Learning.
• To keep track of records of student awards for both Local and International.
• To serve as a data bank for student records and awards with a view to attain a complete on-line platform from e-Application to e-Registration, e-Administration and e-Performance.
• To implement the programme in order to attain solutions in line with current trend.
Kano State Scholarships Board, as a parastatal under the Ministry of Education, is committed towards providing the following services to the state government and students of Kano state Origin studying at any tertiary institution within the country or overseas: -
a) Formulation and Review of Policies governing the Award of Scholarships.
b) Conduct of Sponsorship Interview in respect of all the eligible students of Kano State Origin studying in Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria and overseas.
c) Formal recommendation of suitably qualified applicants for Overseas Training to His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, through the Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education for final approval.
d) Awarding Scholarships and improving the welfare of the Students
e) Payment of Internal Students Maintenance and Other Allowances
f) Providing Guidance and Counselling Services to Students.
g) Contact with other Government Establishments, Institutions of Learning and any other Bodies or Persons on matter relating to the Award of Scholarship.
